The Inspiration
Nicholino was born in 2012, by— Mama — as the Christmas season was fast approaching. Our home kitchen was once again transformed into the family bakery, using recipes passed down from generation to generation and refined by her youngest son, Nicholas, an ardent baker.
We are a family of mixed ancestry — American, German, Mexican, French, Spanish, and more — so our traditions have always been plentiful. Reminiscing with her children about fond memories of growing up both in America and Europe led her on a quest to create the sweetest expression of our family memories and traditions: a celebration of family, children, giving, and nostalgia that she would come to call Nicholino.
Why the name Nicholino?
Mama chose the name after her youngest son Nicholas and to honor St. Nicholas, who in her Catholic faith is venerated for his compassion, kindness, and gift-giving spirit.
How the journey began
First came the Marmalades — Mama always insisted they be made with only the finest natural ingredients: fresh fruit and a hint of pure cane brown sugar, just like our German Oma used to make.
Next, Mama perfected the craft of Artisan Sourdough Breads, following a time-honored German recipe made with unbleached rye, wheat flour and her treasured starter Adam (the nickname she gave it). Baked fresh daily with no added preservatives, to this day, each loaf reflects her commitment to tradition and wholesome ingredients.
She LOVED Children - If there was one thing Mama loved, it was her family and children, so what began as a passion for baking and preserving, blossomed into something much more — a thoughtful collection inspired by family, tradition, and a love for children. All children.
Today,
Nicholino has grown to include Nicholino Kids, a joyful collection of children’s books, toys, and keepsakes from around the world — designed to spark imagination, inspire learning, kindness, and to celebrate the wonder of childhood.
Through Nicholino Kids, children can experience the same beloved treasures enjoyed by little ones across the globe — offering a fun and enriching glimpse into the beautiful traditions of childhood around the world. At Nicholino, we believe every child is special. Just like Mama did.
